Rehabilitation :
a. Homna : In Homna 156 dugwells were disinfected on completion of rehabilitation works. Out of 156 dugwells 23 samples were collected as per approval and send to laboratory for fecal coli form tests. Test report shows that 12 Nos. dugwells contains fecal coli form. The coli form found in the wells has been disinfected using bleaching powder for 2 nd time.
b. Bancharampur : In Bancharampur 88 dugwells were disinfected on completion of rehabilitation works. Out of 88 dugwells 13 water samples were collected and send to laboratory for fecal coli form test. Reports indicate that only in one dugwell there is existence of coli form. The well again disinfected 2 nd time.
In doing the rehabilitation work in Homna 14,040 and in Bancharampur 13,380 population were benefited.

Introduction: Occurrence of natural calamities especially flood is very frequent in Bangladesh . The retune period is so short and occurrence is utterly so insurmountable that the people are absolutely helpless and they accept it as a part of life. They have learnt to cope with its many facets, particularly dealing with water and sanitation problems arising during flood. The flood of 2004 inundated nearly two-third of the country disrupting and dislocating the existing communication so suddenly that it took quite sometime time to reach the distressed people with substantial assistance. Homna and Bancharampur Upazilas are low-lying area and surrounded by haor, baor, river cannel and big water bodies. Road communication is so poor and difficult to travel from one place to another. During the flood of 2004 a large part of these two Upazilas remained under water for 3- 4 months and almost all the Tube wells, newly constructed arsenic free option viz. Dug well and Rain Water Harvesting Tank etc went under flood water. Water of dug wells became contaminated with earthen from the upper surrounding of the dug well resulting from erosion effect. This same effect caused cracking of platform as well as displacing of RCC ring from lining. Subsequently, the these became full with turbid water containing large amount of alluvial soil and the apron partly or fully damaged. UNICEF – DPHE took the project to rehabilitate the safe water options involving the beneficiaries contributing in cash and kind and educating them in emergency preparedness on repairing and rehabilitation of their water options instantly. Major activities of this project were to de-watering turbid water, re-excavation of well, reconstruction of apron, platform, repairing of Tube well and earth filling surrounding the well.
